This museum in Aomori City’s Aomori Waterside Area opened in 2011 to introduce the history and charm of Aomori’s Nebuta Festival. Inside the building there is a hall containing four floats used in the festival and a “Nebuta Museum” corner where one can learn about the festival’s history. The food area where one can enjoy lunch while looking out over Aomori Harbor is also popular.

This is a terrific museum. It is filled with colorful and unusual 3D paper lanterns floats used in the Festival of Lanterns parade in Aomori each year in August. Some of the floats are huge - up to...

"This museum is located a ten-minute walk from Aomori Station's West Exit. This renaissance-style building, surrounded by rich greenery, was built to be the Aomori City Obayashi Ward office building in 1908, and is a city-designated tangible cultural treasure. There are seven display rooms revolving around the hometown of Aomori inside, teaching such lessons as the importance of nature and connecting people to nature. You can also see the room of the forestry bureau chief used in the movie ""Mt. Hakkoda."" Everyone from children to the elderly can learn while enjoying themselves. The garden contains more than a hundred varieties of trees, including Yoshino cherry, hickory, and Hiba cypress, which provide a full view of the beauty of the four seasons."

Aomori Areas

around-area-map

Centuries-old stories of samurai at Kakunodate and the remains of millennia-old archaeological sites including the likes of Isedotai invite history buffs to delve into Aomori’s fascinating history. As the most northern prefecture on the Japanese mainland, Aomori enjoys a cooler climate, which makes it a welcome escape from the southern cities for combining castles, art galleries, and summer festivals with the great outdoors.
