    The Doraemon Wakuwaku Sky Park in the New Chitose Airport terminal building is the world’s first Doraemon-themed facility to be built in an airport. In addition to a shop, the Sky Park has seven areas including a free kids’ zone, a library and a workshop area. You can eat in or take out at the cafe which has a menu featuring lots of cute pictures of Doraemon.

  • Shikotsu-Toya National Park - Lake Shikotsu area

    Hokkaido Chitoseshi Shikotsukonsen
    A national park centered on Lake Shikotsu. Located in southwest Hokkaido, the park centers around the caldera lakes of Lake Shikotsu and Lake Toya and is comprised of Mt. Usu, the Showa-shinzan lava dome, Mt. Tarumae, Mt. Yotei, and numerous other volcanoes. Due to the volcanic activity, hot springs well up from the ground in numerous locations, and many famous hot spring spots are found here, including the Lake Shikotsu hot spring, the Lake Toya hot spring, and the Noboribetsu hot spring. Black woodpeckers, Hokkaido squirrels, Ezo red foxes, and numerous other wild animals make their habitat here as well. There are several camping grounds in the park and an abundance of activities for visitors to enjoy.

    Salmon hometown Chitose Aquarium has Japan’s largest freshwater aquarium fish tanks. Besides salmon, visitors can also observe many other freshwater fish species, many from Hokkaido but with species from all over the world. The underwater observation zone, which gives visitors a close-up view of the waters of the Chitose River, is a must-see. Besides regular events, the Aquarium also hosts special limited-period events. Chitose Aquarium is located around 10 minutes’ drive from New Chitose Airport, and around 10 minutes’ walk from JR Chitose Station.

    A facility where you can enjoy moto sports. New Chitose Motor Land is located along National Route 36 southeast of New Chitose Airport. The facilities rental carts can be enjoyed go-cart style but are high spec enough that they can also offer a taste of real racing motor sports. Children can't ride a cart alone but can ride with an adult. Grid races can be participated in without an advance application. The facility also has dirt and motocross courses where you can watch fiercely contested races unfold right in front of your eyes.

    This open space on the shores of Lake Shikotsu and Lake Caldera, which has the second-highest volume of water storage after Lake Biwa, in Shiga Prefecture, is located an hour's drive from Sapporo. The lakeside plaza in general, as seen from the visitor center or the shopping street, is referred to as the Lakeside Gardens. Visitors to the plaza can rest on the benches, look out towards the lake, lie on the spacious lawns and enjoy a variety of ways to spend their time here. There are also leisure boats available from spring to autumn. The lake's only river mouth, Chitose River, is where the Yamasentetsu Bridge crosses the river. It is the remains of the Oji Light Railway (Mountain Line), a railway, which had linked Lake Shikotsu and Tomakomai since 1908. The bridge is said to be the oldest surviving steel bridge in Hokkaido, and is now a pedestrian bridge.

    This park was created to commemorate the selection of Naibetsugawa Spring, which provides the residents of the city with tap water, as one of the Top 100 Famous Water in Japan. It is located approximately 10 minutes from Chitose Interchange, and there is a walking path beside the Rankoshi Water Treatment Plant, where the Naibetsugawa and Chitose rivers meet. Inside the park, the outlet of the Naibetsugawa Spring has been reproduced, and it is visitors can watch fish swimming in the clear water. On sunny days, people also dip their feet in, or play in the water, as well as come to view the cherry blossoms. And a full-scale model of the first Hokkaido aircraft to land at New Chitose Airport is displayed at the nearby water treatment plant.

While experiencing various video presentations and attractions with Hello Kitty as the navigator, you can enjoy travelling around the world visiting the places in each country where Sanrio characters are waiting. There is a countless number of photo spots provided where you can take pictures with the characters. There is a souvenir shop which has an abundant array of characters available, and there are also sweets available which can only be purchased here. There is a cafe with dishes which have character’s motifs on them and there is an open space available where kids can play for free—this facility is a popular spot which both adults and children can enjoy.

    A diving shop by lush Lake Shikotsu which can set you up for kayaking or snorkeling. The shop is located in the Lake Shikotsu hot spring district. The shop's most popular kayak model has a clear bottom, letting you see down through the waters of the lack. Lake Shikotsu has very clear waters and it's fun watching the fish and aquatic plants living in its depths. During winter when the lake freezes over, the shop offers ice fan diving. While out on the lake, you can also enjoy the sight of frost-covered trees up in the mountains as well as Hokkaido sika deer, Ezo red foxes, and other wild animals.
