- Hokkaido Kamikawagunkamikawachou Sounkyou Hot spring
- Sounkyo-Kurodake no Yu Onsen is a natural hot spring in the center of Sounkyo Onsen resort that is open to the public. It has a large spa on the second floor. The sauna and open-air bath is on the third floor. You can see expansive views of Sounkyo Valley from the open-air bath and also enjoy the beautifully colored leaves on the mountain trees in the autumn and snow in the winter. This place is also great for mountain climbing and sightseeing as well as day visits to the hot springs. There is a restaurant and dining room here as well.

- Hokkaido Kamikawagunkamikawachou Sounkyou Takahara Onsen
- Daisetsu Kougen Sanso is an onsen resort standing quietly in the mountains in the Daisetsuzan National Park at an elevation of 1,260 meters about 40–50 minutes by car from Sounkyo Onsen. The onsen has an indoor and open-air bath and the cascading hot spring is slightly acidic, which is good for neuralgia and muscular pain. It is only open 123 days of the year (summer through fall) because it is cut off by snow in the winter.

- Hokkaido Kamikawa-gun Kamikawacho Sounkyo
- A hot spring district located in a ravine consisting of some 24 kilometers of continuous sheer cliffs at the foot of Mt. Kurodake. The area boasts over 60 source springs and an accordingly abundant flow of piping hot water. One of Hokkaido's top destinations for picturesque scenery, this hot spring village also serves as a base for sightseeing in Daisetsuzan National Park. There are many famous and beautiful waterfalls in the area such as Ryusei Falls; a stream in the area, fed by a hot spring, is lined with Japanese maples and many other deciduous trees, and in fall the entire area is decorated with gorgeous autumn foliage. The area's mildly alkaline chloride springs and sulfate springs are gentle on the skin and accordingly are favored by men and women of all ages.

The writer took the JR from Asahikawa to Kamikawa and bus to Sounkyo Onsen in Nov 2019. It was a snowy and windy day that I could not walk to the nearest fall. The city was quietly and could be...

- Hokkaido Kamikawa-gun Higashi-kawacho Asahidake Onsen
- This hot spring district is located inside Daisetsuzan National Park at the foot of Mt. Asahi-dake, the highest peak of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group, and is the oldest hot spring district in Hokkaido. Asahi-dake is 2,291 meters tall and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains; the seasonal beauty of this peak is breathtaking. There are nine hot spring hotels in the area which have been erected in locations which take advantage of this magnificent scenery, but unlike many hot spring districts in Japan, there is no real town area to speak of. In other words, visitors are free to enjoy lush natural beauty enwrapped in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. There are cross-country skiing courses here available for use from November to May and places which rent equipment; beginners are recommended to take a relaxing soak to ease sore muscles after trying the sport. It is said that the food in Higashikawa Town is grown with spring water, and the area's rice, fresh vegetables, and liquors are all superbly delicious.

Hokkaido Areas
Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
