    This is an alleyway of unique yatai (food stands) created by volunteers in town who wanted to help further community development in Tokachi-Obihiro. Located in the very center of town which is a five-minute walk from JR Obihiro Station, there are now nearly 20 shops offering food such as yakitori, Japanese food, and Italian cuisine. The volunteers have excelled about taking measures to deal with winter chill, and have given consideration to comfortable use of the venue throughout the year.

    The main store of Cranberry, a cake shop famous also for its nationwide product fairs and online business, based in Obihiro City, Hokkaido. The store’s most famous sweet, which has been loved since its establishment in 1972 and exceeds over 500 grams, is the large sweet potato. Encased in the skin of the sweet potato to give its unique appearance, the soft sweetness harnessing the potato’s flavor is a big hit with customers. There is also a coffee shop area in the shop where you can taste Cranberry’s sweet potatoes and cakes.

Their menu offers over 100 different kinds of tapas and a la carte dishes, as well as its prized Japanese Black Wagyu Steak. You can purchase all sorts of Rokkatei sweets, such as Marusei Butter Sandwich Cake, a classic Hokkaido souvenir, as well as their strawberry chocolate which is freeze dried strawberry covered with chocolate.

    This is the Obihiro head office of the famous Hokkaido confectioner, Rokkatei, of which the company was originally founded in Obihiro City. All kinds of Rokkatei sweets are sold here, such as the classic Hokkaido souvenir Marusei Butter Sandwich Cake and sweets made with white chocolate, etc. On the second floor is a cafe where you can get some light food and desserts. Popular dishes are the Saku Saku Pie with thick cream wrapped in pastry, and the Marusei Ice Cream Sandwich Cake. Also in the building is a well-established western-style restaurant, an art gallery and event halls.

The shop’s flagship product is its “3-fold Fromage,” which is made from three types of hand-made cheese produced either in Tokachi or elsewhere in Hokkaido; this has a rich, distinctive cheesy flavor. Inside the shop, which is beautifully decorated in a “naturalistic” style with white walls and the soft warmth of wood, there is an impressive range of cakes and other baked confectionery that are ideal for taking back home from your trip, either as gifts for friends and relatives or to eat yourself!

    Tokachi Butadon Ippin is a specialist Buta Don restaurant located on Shinroku Street, around 15 minutes’ drive from Obihiro Station. The restaurant’s pork portions are substantial but tender, with a slightly sweet flavor to the fat. Carefully selected Japanese pork tenderloin (backstrap) is grilled using only the best Bincho-tan charcoal (made from Ubame oak wood); to avoid spoiling the natural flavors of the ingredients, the specially-made sauce is prepared without heating it. Diners can specify how much rice and how much pork they want, as well as the size of the pork portions and the amount of sauce to be added. Besides the Obihiro flagship store, there are five other Tokachi Butadon Ippin branches in Sapporo City offering the same outstanding charcoal grill taste.

    Buta Don Hanatokachi is a specialist Buta Don (Pork Bowl) restaurant with a distinctive yellow sign outside, located around seven minutes’ walk from Obihiro Station. It was originally an ordinary Japanese restaurant, but when Buta Don was added to the menu the restaurant rapidly acquired a word-of-mouth reputation as having high-quality, reasonably-priced Buta Don, and it became very popular. The loin roll meat used to make the restaurant’s Buta Don is marbled pork, which can be obtained from only around 3% of Hokkaido pigs. To satisfy customers who want to be able to eat both marbled pork and boned rib, Buta Don Hanatokachi introduced “Half-boned Buta Don,” which has become a famous dish. Please note that on weekends and public holidays Buta Don Hanatokachi is very busy, and it may be necessary to queue for a table.

They sell breads and are particular about local ingredients such as using 100% Tokachi grown wheat in all their breads. There is a bakery with an open kitchen in the spacious store, and besides prepared breads such as sandwiches and hearth-baked pizzas, they also make ample amounts of crusty breads. You can eat the breads you purchase in a bright glass-sided space within the building.

    This is a ramen shop popular for “Kodawari Misuzu”, a spicy ramen topped with plenty of soft white welsh onion from Hokkaido. The Welsh onions which are finished by pouring hot oil over them, don’t have a heavy taste, and the balance of the sweetness and acidity merges together with the exquisite soup to give a refreshing taste. You can choose from three flavors: soy sauce, miso and salt. The “roasted pork fillet Misuzu” ramen which is topped with five slices of homemade roast pork fillet of Boston butt has the perfect amount and is popular with male customers. There are counter and table seats in the store, and one can feel at ease entering whether alone or in a group.

The cafe also serves light meals like fresh-baked margherita pizzas and mixed sandwiches.

Depending on the season, the menu may also include deer and other wild game hunted by the owner up in the mountains. You can buy the restaurant's smoked soy sauce and smoked oysters to take home as a souvenir.

Many of its products have charming names relating to the local area, such as the Ezo Violet Azalea and the Tokachi Diary cakes. The shop has no eat-in space and offers takeout sales only. The shop's soft serve ice cream, however, is a popular treat to enjoy on the go while walking about town.
