    連休真ん中に初めて伺いました。新しい建物ですが、とてもこじんまりしています。あとから5組ほどの来訪があり、入場制限してました。油臭や硫黄臭は全く感じないもののやや金属臭。とても温泉らしく好みでした。

Hokkaido Abuta-gun Toyako Cho Toyamachi 199
A natural hot spring bath house on the northern shore of Lake Toya, nearly a two-hour drive from Sapporo City. From the simple building with just bathing rooms and break rooms you can enjoy the scenery of Lake Toya while bathing in the sodium calcium sulfate chloride spring. The bathing rooms have large glass windows that stretch to the floor allowing you to enjoy the scenery even from the bath. The surrounding area has a number of camping areas, so during the camping season and on weekends the washing area is usually congested. And because it's a municipal bathhouse the cost of entry is very reasonable.

    景色の良い温泉でした。内湯のみでサウナもなく長居には向かないと思うのですが、昼間から地元の方が結構おりました。

Hokkaido Abuta-gun Toyako Cho Toyako Onsen
This hot spring district, one of the largest in Hokkaido, was created by the eruption of Mt. Yosomiyama in 1910. Many hot spring hotels stand side by side in the area, particularly on the bank of Lake Toya. There are also day trip bathhouses and free footbaths, and here visitors can luxuriate in relaxing hot spring waters while enjoying the vast, picturesque scenery of the Lake Toya area. The chloride springs found here contain an abundance of potassium and sodium; note that they are not drinkable. Lake Toya Long-Run Fireworks Nights fireworks displays are held each year here from late April through October, and during these times the area bustles with many tourists. Taking a dip in a hot spring bath while enjoying a fireworks display is particularly fun.

We had a nice stop here - a walk along the waterfront. We stopped at a local bakery for a pastry and coffee...but not much to do except enjoy the beautiful lake and Mountain Views

  • Niseko Goshiki Onsen
    Accommodations / Hot Spring
    Hokkaido Abuta-gun Niseko Cho Niseko
Situated 750 meters above sea level among the Niseko Mountains, visitors to this hot spring inn can enjoy the beauty of alpine plants and vast, natural scenery. Goshiki means five colors, a reference to the fact that, unlike a standard hot spring, where one might find at most two different types of springs, here the waters of five different sulfur springs mix and merge, resulting in five different water colors depending on the day. The inn's acidic sulfur-containing magnesium sodium calcium sulfate chloride spring (hydrogen sulfate) waters have a slippery feel and are gentle on the skin. The inn's bathhouse is open to non-guests, as well, but not that in the winter the road may be closed due to heavy snows, so it is best to check in advance.
  • Kitayuzawa Onsen
    Accommodations / Hot Spring
    Hokkaido Date-shi Otaki-ku Kitayuzawaonsencho
A quiet hot spring district commanding a view of the Osaru River valley situated between Lake Shikotsu and Lake Toya. The district's hot springs were discovered in 1897. Visitors will find hotels, ryokan inns, and minshuku bed and breakfasts situated along the river. The bed of the Osaru River consists of exposed green tuff created by the accumulation volcanic ash; its coloring has led to it gaining the nickname the White Silk Bed and becoming a tourist destination in its own right. The waters of the area's sulfur springs are said to treat such ailments as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis vulgaris, chronic eczema, epidermal suppuration, chronic muscle and joint pain, stiffness, light asthma, and pulmonary emphysema. Visitors are also encouraged to make their way to Sangaitaki Park to see Sangaitaki Waterfall, a beautiful waterfall which crashes down a large chunk of bedrock broken up into three tiers. The area is also lovely during the fall foliage season.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
