This old Japanese-style confectionery shop located on the first floor of Sapporo Paseo at JR Sapporo Station is the only outlet in the capital. Founded in 1930, the wakasaimo cakes that the shop takes its name from are a Hokkaido slow food. While they look like baked sweet potatoes, they don't contain any. They're made with white bean jam from Hokkaido grown daifuku beans and use kombu seaweed to replicate the fibers inside sweet potatoes. They're known for their soft, flaky, and gooey fresh baked texture. The shop's moist and chewy fresh baked Poppo Manju are a Sapporo Station specialty and highly popular. There are also many items only available at the Sapporo Paseo Shop like cream puffs and pie.

Hokkaido Main Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
