Odori Park is a unique park located in the center of Sapporo City running about 1.5 kilometers from Odorinishi 1-chome to Odorinishi 12-chome. It also forms a base point that divides the city into north and south. In addition to the beautiful flowerbeds and lawns, as many as 4,700 trees from 92 species are spread about inside the park, and their changing appearance can be enjoyed through the four seasons. Odori Park is also a venue for the Lilac Festival, YOSAKOI Soran Festival, and Sapporo Snow Festival, and is popular as a place where many Sapporo locals and tourists gather for recreation as well.

Visited after lunch with family. Pros: 1) Odori Park is a must visit when in Sapporo. It is a huge and clean park with traditional snacks, restaurants, soft service ice cream, a bubble man, and...

Hokkaido Sapporoshi Chuou-ku Kitaichijounishi 2-chome Former Sapporo Agricultural College Demonstration Center
The clock tower familiarly, called “Sapporo Clock Tower” was originally constructed as a drill hall for the former Sapporo Agricultural College, the predecessor of Hokkaido University. Originally there was no bell tower but only a mechanism of pulling a rope to ring a small bell, however, the bell tower was constructed in 1881 under the direction of the Governor Kiyotaka Kuroda and since then a Howard pendulum type clock has been in use. It is about 10 minutes on foot from the nearest Odoori Station. The first floor serves as a museum displaying the history of the clock tower and on the second floor you can experience the atmosphere of the historic drill hall and view the workings of the clock.

Was surprised at how small the clock tower is but its neat. There some sort of a museum inside. We didnt have time so we didnt go inside,i am sure it would have been interesting.

The building called “The red brick office” (aka renga chosha) is the symbol of development in Hokkaido and is a brick building that was completed in 1888. It is built in the neo-baroque American-style and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The building was restored to its original state in 1968 after the roof and interior were lost to fire. Many flowers such as cherry trees and tulips have been planted in the grounds making it a relaxing spot for the locals.

Our Japanese friend wanted to go there, or we would not have gone. We went after getting warmed up in the underground walkway, so we were ready to be outside a bit longer.

Built in the eastern end of Odori Park, this television tower has a height of 147.2 meters. It was constructed when television broadcasting first began in Sapporo. Now it is popular as a view spot that affords a 360° view of Sapporo’s urban area. One can appreciate the scenery of Sapporo’s four seasons including the abundant greenery of Odori Park, the YOSAKOI Soran Festival, and the Sapporo Snow Festival from the observatory that is 90.38 meters from the ground below. Inside the tower is a restaurant and shop selling merchandise for the television tower’s character, Terebi Otosan (TV Dad).

I walked the 352 steps up to the 3rd floor and it was a killer. haha Reasonable price at ¥720 (about $10 Australian dollars). Very small at the observation deck with souvenir stalls all around (leave...

Hokkaido University, which first opened as Sapporo Agriculture College in 1876. After that, it has made a great contribution not only to agriculture, but also to the development of Hokkaido. The words Professor Clark left for his students on his departure from Sapporo “Boys be ambitious!” remain as the university’s motto today. The university grounds are enormous, the Sapporo campus being approximately 1.77 million square meters, which is the size of 38 Tokyo Dome baseball stadiums. Walking around the nature-filled campus with its avenues lined with poplars and elm forests is an enjoyable experience.

It was already afternoon when my family visited the campus. We went thru the main gate but there was not much signage that can guide you. Luckily, we managed to spot the Tourist Information Centre...

Sapporo Beer Museum, located to the east of Sapporo Station, is the only museum in Japan where you can learn about the history of Japanese beer. Admission to the museum is free, but the paid tour (about 50 minutes) is recommended if you have the time. You can learn about the history of Sapporo Beer with the powerful 6K wide-screen theater and easy-to-understand guide. Also you can only sample the “Fukkokuban Sapporo-sei Bakushu” (Reproduced Sapporo Beer) that recreates the flavor at the time of Sapporo Beer's establishment as well as the iconic Black Label Sapporo Beer on the paid tour. Reservations through the website are required.

We enjoyed the Sapporo Beer Museum. It was pity there wasnt a bit more English through the exhibition but it was still very interesting. The beer hall at the end made it a complete experience and...

Sapporo, Hokkaido, Higashi-ku, Moerenuma Park 1-1
Moerenuma Park is a comprehensive park in northeast Sapporo for which globally renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi created the basic design. Based on the concept of “the whole being a single sculpture,” it was recommended to build on a site where 2.7 million tons of waste had been put in landfill, and the park opened in 2005. Hills with geometric forms, fountains, and play equipment have been arranged in a vast site equivalent to 40 Tokyo Domes, allowing a landscape that fuses art and nature to be enjoyed. Another attraction is that seasonal pastimes can be enjoyed with cherry blossoms in the spring, water activities in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and cross country skiing in the winter.

Visited with family Pros: 1) This park can be reached via train and bus. Ensure to read and understand the directions carefully because it can be confusing. 2) Best to visit with a full stomach and...

Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium was the stage for ski jumping at the Winter Olympic Games held in Sapporo in 1972. A two-seater lift goes up to the top from where you can see up close the huge, steep jump. From the observation lounge (start house) at an altitude of 307 meters, you can overlook the city of Sapporo and the Ishikari Basin and get a feel for the wonderful expanse of natural beauty of Hokkaido.

The view from Mt Okura Observatory is stunning, at night you can see the city lights spread out in front of you. The cable car was enjoyable. By the way, if you take the bus to the Observatory, make...

This aerial tram traverses directly into the center of Mt. Moiwa from where a spectacular view of Sapporo's night scape can be seen. The glassed-in gondolas hold up to 66 passengers, yet a panoramic view of the virgin woodlands, downtown Sapporo, and even as far as Ishikari Bay can be seen during the day, making for an exhilarating 'walk through the air.' The scenic night view of Sapporo, selected as one of Japan's new top 3 cities for night views, is also recommended. One can transfer onto the Maurice car to proceed to the peak of Mt. Moiwa.

The ropeway is a bit expensive for the length of the ride, but in winter it is really the only way to go up the mountain. We were crammed in, and were fortunately near the outside so we could see...

The Historical Village of Hokkaido is an outdoor museum which reproduces the frontier days of Hokkaido where you can learn about frontier history. There are four separate areas which are the Farm Village, the Sea Village, the Mountain Village and the City and you can walk through each village to experience the different atmospheres. At the Frontier Village Restaurant in the museum, you can eat the simple but delicious “Imo Mochi” and the restaurant’s original Tondenhei (Settlers’) Set Meal.

We visited the Historical Village of Hokkaido last time we visited Japan. It was mid autumn, and therefore snow was lacking, but the village was interesting all the same. It is easy to get around and...

The Sapporo Factory has about 160 shops and facilities, which include a shopping center and all-weather entertainment. It was built on the site of the Kaitakushi Beer Brewery, which was the predecessor of Sapporo Beer, and used the red bricks from the building creating a historical feel. With limited edition items and one-of-a-kind stores, it is recommended for souvenir buying. There are also lots of ways to have fun, including a lush indoor garden, a cinema complex, and a beer hall.

It was interesting to visit the Sapporo Beer Factory. We got to try the different beers and we also had lunch at the Beer Garden. Beautiful place to take pictures as well

This market is an outdoor market next to the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market located ten minutes from Sapporo Station by car. They get very fresh food from the Central Wholesale Market every day and sell them to the locals and visitors at very reasonable prices. There are around 60 shops and restaurants which include sushi, seafood bowls, ramen and oysters. They also provide next-day delivery for purchases within and outside Hokkaido, which is reassuring when choosing souvenirs.

Wide range of fresh seafood (king crabs and others) and fruits (corn, yubari melons) at good prices. The cream puff snack is a must get in my opinion, we had it twice the 2 times we were there during...

    Hokkaido Sapporoshi Minami-ku Jouzankei 608
A day trip hot spring bath facility in the Jozankei hot spring area in Sapporo City famous for its Indian curry with baths constantly replenished kake-nagashi style from the source. Fresh, piping hot water direct from the underground spring is sent straight to the baths; the waters have beautifying, smoothing, and moisturizing effects on the skin. The so-called Velvet Bath is popular with women. The three spacious outdoor baths built in the middle of the wilderness are some of the biggest in Japan. These stone baths are designed for long, relaxing soaks; at night, they're illuminated, and you can enjoy the magical atmosphere created. The facility also offers a variety of activity sets which include hot spring baths. You can enjoy canoeing, camping, snow shoeing in winter, and other fun activities.

After our onsen we settled on an Indian dinner. I loved the naan! The curries were tasty too! But nothing beats watching the Japanese speaking Indians at work in the kitchen.
