Asahiyama Zoo is a zoo in Asahikawa City. The exhibits allow you to see the expressions of the animals close up and include the penguin enclosure where you can see the penguins swimming as if they are flying through the air from an underwater tunnel that gives a 360° view (at the Penguin Building), the polar bear enclosure where the 300kg giants swim around energetically (at the Polar Bear Building), the seal enclosure where you can watch the distinctive swimming of seals (at the Seal Building), and the beasts of prey enclosure where you can see tigers, lions, leopards and other from various angles (at the Beast Building). Ueno Farm was originally an ordinary rice farm. Starting in 1989, when a change in the law made it possible for farmers to sell their rice directly to consumers, Ueno Farm experienced a steady increase in the number of people visiting the farm, and the owner decided that it would be a good idea to plant flowers so that visitors could enjoy strolling round the farm; as a result, Ueno Farm became a place where people can admire different seasonal flowers at different times of year. Today, besides walking round the Farm’s gardens, visitors can also purchase herbs and seedlings grown on the Farm using seeds imported from Europe, and enjoy light meals and desserts made using locally-grown ingredients. The weekend farmers’ market, when neighboring farmers come to sell their vegetables at Ueno Farm, is also a popular event.

Such a beautiful garden to visit. Be sure to go up the hill at the end of the gardens for a wonderful view. Also, eat in the restaurant for a relaxed meal, which was delicious,

    Hokkaido Kamikawa-gun Higashi-kawacho Asahidake Onsen
This ropeway connects Asahidake Onsen (1,100 meters above sea level) to the Fifth Station at 1,600 meters above sea level. It is located at the foot of Asahidake, the highest peak in Hokkaido. Visitors can enjoy a massive 360-degree panorama over the course of this ten-minute air walk. The ropeway is one of the main sightseeing spots in Asahidake, where visitors can enjoy views of the changing seasons, such as the white skunk cabbage and the melting snow as it flows towards the wetlands in the spring, and see the alpine plants in full bloom on the summit of the mountain in the summer. Of all of the views the ropeway has to offer, the most popular is the scenic views reminiscent of spilled paint covering the mountain when the leaves turn red in the autumn. And in the winter, natural phenomena such as diamond dust and sun pillar may occur, which draw many cameramen who come to capture these moments.

The ropeway is a convenient way to get to the base of Mount Asahidake. You can then walk a loop to the fumeroles and back. The views are lovely on the trip up and down. Park at the information...

The ""W soup,"" which adds an ""animal-based"" soup using pork and chicken bones with the umami of a ""seafood-based"" soup made using dried small sardines and kelp, goes perfectly with the specially-made medium-thin noodles. It is superb because it is rich while having a refreshing aftertaste."

Taisetsu Ji Beer Microbrewery is a restaurant housed in red brick warehouses built in the Meiji and Taisho periods. You can taste beer from a region of heavy snowfall that uses underground water from the Mt. Taisetsu range in elegant buildings designated as Registered Cultural Properties. Several kinds of freshly brewed beer are available, including a fruity ale and a pilsner that goes down smoothly. In addition to wine and cocktails, the restaurant offers cuisine that ranges from single dishes to a “Genghis Khan” barbeque using Hokkaido ingredients including from Asahikawa.

Shame. Meal was not what we expected and expensive for what we got. Beer nothing to rave about. Disappointed.

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn.
