Opened in 1975, this sandwich shop has been popular with the people of Sapporo for years. You can put together two kinds of filling from a choice of ten, each going perfectly well with the shop’s specially baked bread. Noted sandwiches on the menu are the red king crab salad sandwich with plenty of native Hokkaido crab packed inside. The shrimp cutlet sandwich with a piping hot deep fried taste is also really good. Inside, the shop is fitted out with retro style furniture making for an old style coffee shop kind of feel.

We bumped into this place while shopping. Since we have not had breakfast yet, we decided to give it a try. It was overall a good breakfast. Love the sandwiches. Price is pretty decent too. Very...

Matsuo Jingisukan carefully selects only those cuts of meat which are suitable for use in Mongolian Barbecue; unwanted fat and gristle is removed by hand. Matsuo Jingisukan’s “Pure Sauce,” the recipe for which has remained unchanged since the restaurant chain was first established, is made using apples, onions, ginger, soy sauce and a secret mix of spices. The Mongolian Barbecue dining experience at Matsuo Jingisukan is truly unique!

I usually dont like lamb, but I thought in Japan, it could be different, so I tried. And I was right! The meat is very tender and no gamy smell. The marinade is excellent. You can eat the meat by...

A jingisukan lamb barbecue restaurant. The restaurant's raw lamb jingisukan, made with tender Australian lamb shoulder roast meat, which lacks the distinctive odor many people dislike in their lamb, goes great with Fukuroutei's special homemade secret sauce crafted with 16 herbs and spices. This comes with a plate of flavorful vegetables, and Fukuroutei is popular with women as well. Some of the menu other menu choices include tasty lamb tongue, smaller than beef tongue and possessing an excellent texture; and sausages made with lamb and Siberian onion (Alpine leek).

Local Gengis Khan quality lamb a smaller restaurant with a really good local vibe close to Nakajima Koen subway .

A steak restaurant where you can enjoy hearty slabs of beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and even dear meat in a designer space reminiscent of old America created with lots of iron and wood. Particularly recommended is the restaurant's signature shallow-fried Ikeda beef, a Hokkaido brand wagyu Japanese beef variety. A proprietary technique is used to give the beef a crisp outer flavor crust while keeping the inside moist and rare so that diners can enjoy the innate flavor of the red meat. Diners are encouraged to bite wholeheartedly into the tender, creamy meat.

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 2-jo nishi 5 Minami 2 Nishi 5 Building 1F
This powerful Italian restaurant opened back in the days when Sapporo had few Italian shops, and even has a wood fired oven imported from Italy itself. It has run three years in a row in world pizza contests, and has earned top place as a Japanese chef twice. The chef is particular about every detail from the flour, to the water, and even yeast, in creating authentic traditional Milanese style pizza with its particular crisp crust. It's popular for the woody aroma and savory wheat flavor. It has a strong regular clientele due to its focus on using seasonal Hokkaido ingredients.

Restaurant staff were rude and served our food later than others; didnt bother reading us the specials that were brought to the others.

Look for the yellow sign right in front of Nijo Fish Market. This popular Chef's Choice rice bowl (delux) is loaded with a selection of seafood picked especially by the chef and is another big hit. You must be impressed to see fresh great flavors of 15 to 20 varieties of sashimi on top. You can also enjoy its carefully selected sea urchin of the day because raw season has different flavors depending on the time and place.

You gotta have a meal here if you are in Sapporo! We were really impressed by the quality and freshness of the seafood, one of the best we had so far!

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 2 Nishi 1 (Tanukikoji 1-chome)
This ramen shop is just at the entrance to Tanukikoji 1-Chome, about a five-minute walk from Sapporo TV Tower. They are focused on using only Hokkaido products in their ramen, including the noodles, char siu pork, miso and soy sauce. Their popular dish is Seared Char Siu Miso. The fat melts away and leaves meat so tender it falls apart in your chopsticks. The broth is much lighter than it looks, and is perfect for a light meal. It's tipped with colorful Yuzu peel, and the gentle aroma is enchanting.

The ramen comes with grilled pork strip. Not only is the ramen good, the pork strip is fantastic. Smells so good, taste much better. The price is also reasonable. My wife and I loved it. I would...

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 3-jo nishi 7-1 Tanukikoji 7
"This shop took off as a ""one coin"" ramen shop in Sapporo. They offer two reasonably priced styles, salt-broth and soy sauce broth, as they have always done. The thick pork bone based broth is lighter than it looks, and guests often drink it dry. They top their bowls with boiled egg, char siu pork, and iwanori seaweed, and sell it all for 500 yen. Their big standard is the akadama topping, which are spicy chicken meatballs. They recommend eating the first one as-is, then crumbling the second one and mixing it in to see how the taste changes."

Smaller place, which means theres sometimes a queue, but its usually pretty good! Recommendation is Miso-ramen which is nice and rich almost creamy in its nuttiness.

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 3-jo nishi 7 (Tanukikoji 7-chome Produce store 2F)
This Spanish-style bar has high, airy ceilings lit by chandeliers and flickering candles for a grown up atmosphere. The indirect lighting and relaxed atmosphere make this a great place to enjoy authentic Spanish cuisine and perfectly paired wines. The shop was built to resemble a Mediterranean shop from the curtains to the bar counter, and it's great for couples, groups, or even on your own. They offer paella, tapas, Ajillo and other Spanish standards, and you can also order traditional kushiyaki skewers, all of which you can pair with their plentiful wine menu.

This ramen shop is about a five-minute walk from Susukino Station, and is marked by its deep noren curtain. They offer two variations on chicken-stock soup base. Their most popular ramen is the Kogashi Shoyu, a clean, light soy-sauce based broth made with special lard-braised garlic soy sauce. The rich aroma is a real appetite stirrer. They use Kyoto's Saikyo Miso and Aichi's Haccho Miso for their mellow, flavorful Tokusen Miso ramen, a must-try bowl.

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
