The Futami Tsuribashi Suspension Bridge is a spectacular red bridge that forms part of a hiking trail in the Jozankei hot spring resort. The Bridge is 23 meters from end to end. While listening to the murmuring of the stream, visitors can enjoy the marvelous scenery, which includes views of the Kappa Pool (which is associated with legends of the Kappa river sprites) and the Futami-iwa Rock. The vistas are particularly beautiful in the autumn foliage season, when the Bridge provides 360-degree views of hills covered with gorgeous red and yellow leaves.

    Hokkaido Kushiroshi Kitaodori
At the time the bridge was built in 1889, it was the longest wooden bridge in Hokkaido. The current bridge is the fifth reconstruction and was completed in 1976. Nusamai Bridge is counted as one of the top three bridges in Hokkaido. The four sculptures of nudes, representing the four seasons, on its handrails give the bridge an exotic feel. Enjoy the fantastic sight of sunset, street lights, and the four sculptures, with the vast ocean in the background.

Hokkaido Kato-gun Kamishihorocho Nukabira Gensen Go
"This area is dotted with concrete arch bridges, reminiscent of ancient Roman aqueducts. The Taushubetsu river bridge is nicknamed the ""Phantom Bridge"" because when the Lake Nukabira water level rises around June, the bridge sinks below the surface, and reappears around January when the water level drops again."

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
