The exterior of the building is modeled on the Palazzo Grassi in Venice while the second, third and fifth floor exhibition rooms, styled on the 18th century palace rooms, house an elegant museum. The museum hosts many special exhibitions in addition to the Venetian displays of interior design throughout the seasons and permanent displays of Murano Glass. You can also get dressed up in aristocratic or carnival-style clothing and have your photograph taken for posterity! The museum is a 10-minute walk from JR Minami-Otaru Station and a ten minute drive from Otaru interchange.

This shop sells lots of different coloured glass items produced locally. They are beautiful and intricate. Reminded me of Murano glass.

This commercial complex facility is located six minutes by outbound rapid train (JR Hakodate Main Line) from JR Otaru Station at JR Otaru-Chikko Station (directly connected to Wing Bay Otaru). It was built as a place of expression in Otaru, a city that combines nature and culture. It has popular brand shops, a fitness gym, movie theater and a variety of restaurants. In addition, events are held on weekends inviting various performers.

Went there for clothes shopping early January 2019. Claimed tax free so that receipt was stapled in my passport. And I hadn’t take a photo of the receipt before leaving receipts at custom of Chitose...

Great place to get up close and personal with the red fox. Place is not glitzy or large but it serves the function of showcasing the fox.

Wakkanai Fukuko Market started in 2007 and is the northernmost commercial complex in Japan. Located 20 minutes by car from Wakkanai Airport, there are souvenir shops, onsens and restaurants including the outdoor “Yatai” stall village called “Hatoba-Yokocho where you can eat gourmet foods from a wide range of genres ranging from ramen and yakitori to Russian food. You can also enjoy the Wakkanai Hot Spring “Minato no Yu”, an open-air hot spring on the second floor, and watch the ships on the busy ocean.

It was built on the site of the Kaitakushi Beer Brewery, which was the predecessor of Sapporo Beer, and used the red bricks from the building creating a historical feel. With limited edition items and one-of-a-kind stores, it is recommended for souvenir buying. There are also lots of ways to have fun, including a lush indoor garden, a cinema complex, and a beer hall.

It (all 70 kinds of animals) includes Japan's first cold-resistant tropical animal rearing program, with Hokkaido's only elephant. Kushiro City Museum celebrated its 60th anniversary in July 2016. The Museum is focused mainly on themes relating to Kushiro, and it makes effective use of three-dimensional displays that incorporate surround sound to create a multisensory experience for visitors. The Dio-Nature-Dome, with its artificial sky, is a must-see. To reach the Museum from JR Kushiro Station by bus takes around 15 minutes; get off at the “Shiritsu Byoin” bus stop, and the Museum is five minutes’ walk away.

The exhibits in this museum do a great job of explaining the local history. While most of the exhibits are self explanatory, very few exhibit descriptions are in both English & Japanese.

This zoo is approximately 10 minutes by car from Kushiro Airport. In addition to exhibiting popular animals such as polar bears, Amur (Siberian) tigers, alpaca and Japanese macaques, it also has a zone featuring precious animals from Hokkaido such as Japanese cranes, Hokkaido brown bears, and Japanese flying squirrels, and visitors can observe the animals relaxed and carefree surrounded by beautiful nature. “Pakupaku Time” where visitors can watch animals eating is held every day. This garden dedicated to farming and food is operated by a local bean wholesaler in Makubetsu Town, Nakagawa County, Hokkaido. Northern Canary Park was the location for the movie Kitano Kanariya-tachi (A Chorus of Angels). It was opened in July 2013. The Misaki (cape) branch school of the Reitan Elementary School featured in the movie is open to the public, and the movie is introduced inside the school. The park is located in the southern part of Rebun Island with spectacular views of Mt. Rishiri Fuji.

This park located about 40 minutes by bus from Hakodate Station in Hakodate City, Hokkaido Prefecture is about a one-minute walk from the Kosetsuen bus stop. There is also a golf course, which was developed surrounding the traditional scenic gardens of Kosetsuen, built by Minejiro Iwafune in the middle of the Meiji period (1868-1912). They are the only gardens in Hokkaido that are a nationally-designated Cultural Property, and the Yoshino cherry blossoms in the spring along with the scenic fall colors win the hearts of those who visit. There are many other highlights such as a brick greenhouse and a garden house made in the shoin style of traditional Japanese architecture.
