    Cape Agarizaki is a cape at the easternmost tip of Yonaguni Island. It is a cape covered with idyllic meadows, and there is a lighthouse and a viewing platform at the tip of the cape—you can get an unbroken view of the cobalt blue sea which spreads out under the sheer cliffs. Yonaguni horses and cattle are graze in the meadow, and you can gaze at the tranquil rural landscape.

    A garden located in Higashiusuki County, Miyazaki Prefecture. Some two million bigleaf hydrangeas grow on the park's vast, 20 hectares of grounds, and during the rainy season visitors can enjoy the magical scenery created by their flowers and backed by the vast ocean beyond. Many other flowers also bloom in the garden, including peach blossoms, jacaranda, and bougainvillea. Mt. Tomi Observatory, located nearby, is also known for its picturesque view of the hydrangea.

    Hokkaido Suttsugunsuttsuchou Masadomarichou Benkei
    A cape situated along National Route 229 in Masadomari-cho, Suttsu Town, Suttsu County, Hokkaido Prefecture. According to legend, the warrior monk Benkei stood here waiting for reinforcements when his lord, the samurai Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune, crossed into Ezo (now Hokkaido). Today, a statue of Benkei stands on the cape. A scenic area from which visitors can enjoy a view of the setting sun, the cape can also be used as a fishing spot.

    This cape is in Higashitazawa, Hiranai Town, Higashitsugaru County. It is located at the tip of the Natsudomari Peninsula that extends into Mutsu Bay, between the Tsugaru Peninsula and the Shimokita Peninsula. A sandbar links it to Oshima Island at low tide, and there's a bridge that provides access at high tide to sites like the Mutsu Oshima Lighthouse. Mt. Tsubaki, the northernmost area of the country where Japanese camellias grow wild, is about two kilometers east of the peninsula. It has been designated a National Natural Monument

    "Murosaki is a promontory that juts out into Suruga Bay a bit west of Muroiwado (abandoned quarry) on the way along the Fujimi Chokoku Line, about a five-minute drive from the Matsuzaki Bus Terminal. The town of Matsuzaki promotes itself as ""The town with the world's most beautiful view of Mt. Fuji,"" and not only does it offer views of Mt. Fuji to the north but it is also famous for its sunsets. As the sun sets at Murosaki, visitors are treated to a beautiful scene of a red-tinged Mt. Fuji being reflected in the waters of Suruga Bay."

    "A picturesque cliff located in Kunigami Village on the northern tip of Okinawa Island. ""Banta"" means ""cliff"" in the Okinawan dialect. The 80-meter-high, precipitous cliff faces the East China Sea and offers a sweeping view of the ocean in Okinawa Kaigan Quasi-National Park. From an observatory, visitors can look down the steep cliff walls and at the surrounding beauty of the ocean and natural scenery. Visitors can also walk along a walking path or relax in an arbor on the cliff. On clear days, visitors can see the gentle ocean and Ginama Fish Harbor directly below and beautiful steep mountains stretching into the distance."

    A 24 minute drive from the Shizugawa interchange and a 33 minute drive from the Kahoku interchange. Situated on the border between Ishinomaki City and Minamisanriku Town, this top sightseeing destination is notable for its famous scenic crag which has been split in two. The sun can be seen rising between the rocks only around middle of February and middle of October, a unique sight which can only be enjoyed here. Even outside this time frame, the ocean waves crashing through the narrow crevice are stunning and this view is so beautiful it has been selected for inclusion in a list of Japan's 100 best white sand and green pine landscapes. According to legend, the cape was split in two by a god after two villages in the area fought here over a whale that had washed ashore.

    This beach in Shima City, Mie Prefecture is marked by its wide, shallow shoal and gentle curve. The south side has the Ago Matsubara Beach, which is packed with swimmers all summer long. The beach is also a year-round surfing spot, and famous even in the surfing hot spots of the Chugoku region. They even hold surfing competitions here.

    This earth village is located at 40° North latitude in Fudai Village, Iwate Prefecture. Standing at the Kurosaki Observation Point or the Anmoura Observation Point, visitors can look down at the Pacific Ocean from the steep cliffs and see the curvature of the earth. It has also been designated a “geo site” of Sanriku Geo Park. Fudai considers Kurosaki Observation Point to be its symbol, and other impressive sights include East Point, which exactly marks 40°0’ 0”” North, and the waterfall at Anmoura, the steepest drop in Iwate Prefecture. The name of Anmoura Observation Point, which stands on the edge of a 100-meter cliff, is said to come from an Ainu word that refers to demons and ghosts.

    This is located at the end of the Hakozaki Peninsula and is one of the most famous scenic spots along the Rikuchu Coast, offering a view created by the sea, wind, rain, and other natural forces over the eons. Looking to the north, visitors can see from Otsuchi Bay to Yamada Bay, and looking toward the south, they can see from Sangan Island to Kamaishi Bay. To the south is an immense area of closely huddled granite rock formations, and Sangan Island is visible. Visitors can travel the 6. 8 kilometers from Hakozaki Shirahama to the point via a walking trail clearly marked with directional signs.

    This is located in Yachidate, Otomo-cho, Rikuzen-Takata City. It is characterized by shoreline eroded by waves, and it has been designated a National Monument. Wave-eroded caves and tidal blow holes dot the shoreline, and a walking path has been laid out that allows visitors to pass through the area in about 30 minutes.

    Also known as Kamuro-no-Taka, this is a rocky cliff over 100 meters tall where the massif of the Osado Mountains drops off into the sea. Looking out over the panorama of the Sea of Japan, one can also see Mt. Onokame in the distance. Walking trails centered on Sado Vacation Village Auto Camp have been laid out, and during the day, visitors can enjoy the Sea of Japan glittering in the sunlight, and at night they can enjoy the sunset and the sight of illuminated fishing boats. Since there is a lighthouse at the end of the walking trail, many people go there to marvel at the scenery.

    This is a scenic area north of Zendana Rock, associated with the ninth-century monk Kobo Daishi. Legend has it that in the medieval period, a rockslide from Mt. Chigyo, which looms over the area, buried the beach. Japan has many legends about badgers, and the three most famous ones are Danzaburo-Danuki of Sado, Shibaemon-Danuki of Awaji Island, and Hage-Tanuki of Yashima in Kagawa Prefecture. Over 90 shrines are dedicated to them. Traveling along Prefectural Route 45, one finds a small torii gate, and through that gate is Sabuto Jinja Shrine, which figures in a legend about the badger. On Sado, badgers are depicted and honored as kindly and helpful parent-like figures.

    This point, located in the central part of the Nanaura Coast, is known as an excellent place to view sunsets or illuminated nighttime fishing. The entirety of this flat rocky area that looks like a raised beach has been designated as Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park. The scattered rock formations and the beautiful and variable seascape are the products of ancient volcanic activity. If one walks along the coast, these eye-catching rocks tell of the history of the area. A lighthouse is located at the tip of the point, and visitors can walk quite close to it. This point is also known for its impressive views of the sun setting into the Sea of Japan.
  • Nanbara Senjojiki

    This lava plateau is located a 10-minute drive from Hachi-jojima Airport. The black basalt plateau is 500 meters wide and 100 meters long. The desolate landscape was formed when lava from an eruption of Mt. Hachijo-Fuji flowed into the sea the waves crashing against the plateau cliff results in explosive sprays of ocean water. Statues of Ukita Hideie, who was banished here after being defeated in the Battle of Sekigahara, and his wife Gohime, who continued to send supplies to her husband as well as her son, are located around 100 meters south of the plateau's parking area.
  • Otomi Cliff

    This cliff, designated Place of Scenic Beauty by the prefecture, is located in Otomi, Takahama Town, Oi County, Fukui Prefecture. The towering cliff is 260 meters tall and its magnificent form was slowly carved out via erosion caused by the stormy Sea of Japan. A walking path leads to Oshimawashisaki Lighthouse standing on the tip of a peninsula; visitors can also take a tour and view the majestic cliff from the sea onboard a fishing vessel (reservation required).
  • Torikuso Iwa

    "This cliff is located in Sou, Echizen Town, Nyu Country, Fukui Prefecture. The 100-meter-tall towering cliff is situated on the south side of scenic Kochomon on the Echizen Coast. The cliff's name literally means ""Bird Poop Rock,"" a name it gained due to the excrement of the sea birds which live on its end."
  • Eight Beautiful Views of Susami Koibitomisaki (Lover's Waves)

    "An eight-minute drive from JR Susami Station. This peninsula is one of the Eight Beautiful Views of Susami, and here visitors can watch as the ocean crashes into and is split into two by Okanokuroshima, them comes together again beyond it. One of the most picturesque destinations on the Kareki Sea, the waves are also known as the ""Husband and Wife Waves."" The area has also been selected for inclusion in a list of the 100 best sunrises and sunsets in Wakayama. On the west side of Okinokuroshima, there is a cave which continues under the sea, and scuba diving can be enjoyed in the area from March to the end of April, and from late June to the end of October. According to legend, the treasure of the Kumano Navy is hidden in the cave."
