    A highland located 800 meters above sea level at the foot of the Kiso Mountains (Central Alps). Known as the highest highland area in the Ina Valley, visitors can view such picturesque sights as the Senjojiki Cirque, a valley formed through glacial erosion; Onuma Lake, and Komagaike Pond. The Komagatake Ropeway can be used to reach the top of Mt. Kisokoma, also known as Mt. Komagatake, and the area is a popular destination for mountain climbers. A ski resort also operates in the area in winter.

  • Okususobana Nature Garden

    This nature garden is located in Nagano City. It is known as a famous spot for experiencing nature where you can see beech virgin forests and colonies of skunk cabbage at the headwaters of the Susobana River. There is a promenade in the park where you can enjoy a two to four-hour stroll. The park is open from April until around October and is closed in the winter.

There is a walking course in the park where you can enjoy relaxing strolls taking in the beautiful natural environment. You can reach this nature park from Tateshina Ranch using the gondola lift.

The highland particularly bustles with skiers in winter.

Hiking paths and lookouts are available, and hiking is another recommended activity.

    This highland is found at the northeast end of Nikko National Park. Surrounded by virgin forest of Japanese beech and Mongolian oak, it hosts the famous Kashi Hot Spring, and sprawling farms like on the plains of Hokkaido. The area along the Abukuma River is outfitted with walking trails, allowing you to stroll along the highland surrounded by the singing of the waters. The virgin forest is found at around 850 meters above sea level, and it has about 3,000 meters of training courses that are used by students and professionals for highland training.

The highland is a great place to relax and enjoy the fall foliage of the Hakkoda Mountains in autumn."
