    Shizuoka Pref. Fujinomiyashi Nebara
    Surrounded by Mountains, this plateau stretches across the foothills of Mt. Fuji in Fujinomiya City. Its name, which means morning fog, stems from geography and climate conditions conducive to the formation of fog in the morning. As one of the prefecture's biggest dairy farming regions, it has many dairy facilities including farms that offer dairy farming experiences.
  • Oishi-kogen Highland

    This highland area is spread between the towns of Aritagawa and Kimino. Surrounding the primary Oishigamine peak, elevation 870 meters, are pampas grasses inviting many visitors in early spring and during the autumn pampas grass season. The grasses are photogenic especially in the autumn dusk glow where they appear like shining gold. From the pinnacle, one can see the Izumi Mountain Range to the North, and Mt. Gomadan and other crests of inner Koya to the east. At night, one can even capture the star filled sky with the town lights in the backdrop. Because Koya can be reached by car, this is a spot that even a novice photographer feels like a professional.

    The Inatori Hosono Plateau in Higashiizu Town is an area of tableland that reaches a height of 422 meters above sea-level. There are wide open spaces covered with susuki (Japanese pampas grass), and spectacular views of Sagami Bay. The Plateau is also famous for having four areas of wetland that are important habitats for endangered species, and which have been designated as Prefectural Natural Monuments. Various special events are held on the Plateau, including the “Autumn Susuki Event,” when visitors can enjoy the vistas of golden susuki grass, and the “Inatori Hosono Plateau Sansai-gari (Edible Wild Plant Gathering)” activity in spring.

    A highland situated along the Takabocchi Skyline road in Kataoka, Shiojiri City. Sprawling at the foot of 1,665-meter-tall Mt. Takabocchi, the highland is a renowned picturesque destination and offers a 360 panoramic view of the area, including Lake Suwa, Yatsugatake, Mt. Fuji, and the Akaishi Mountains.

    This highland area 1,200 meters above sea level is also known as the first place in Japan to be designated a national park. Visitors can enjoy the area's seasonal scenery. Highlights include Mt. Karakuni, the highest peak on Kirishima volcano group; beautiful cobalt blue Fudo Pond; and Susukigahara, a field ofreddish brown Japanese pampas grass from which the city of Ebino gets its name.

    This roughly 1,200-meter above sea level highland is at Mt. Akanagisan in Tokorono, Nikko City. Its rich natural environment includes colorful foliage in autumn and alpine plants like nearly 260,000 Nikko kisuge day lilies that bloom from late June. The area has hotels and other accommodation options, as well as leisure facilities that include Ozasa Ranch, the New Kirifuri Camping Ground, and the Nikko Kirifuri Highland Kisuge-daira Park.
  • Murodou-Daira

    Murodou-Daira is a tourist spot located at an altitude of 2,450 meters above sea level. Located at the heart of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route area, Murodou-Daira is also a base for mountain-climbing. Visitors can view several peaks that rise to around 3,000 meters, including Mt. Tsurugi. There are plenty of great walks nearby, with the opportunity to view Mikuriga-ike Pond and Jigoku-dani (“hell valley”); in spring, when the snow has been cleared from Otani area, visitors can also experience traveling along a road with 20-meter high snow drifts on either side.

    Ehime Kamiukena-gun Kumakogencho
    This town is located in central Ehime prefecture. It's surrounded by outstanding natural scenery, with the Shikoku Karst field, one of Japan's three largest, western Japan's tallest peak of Mt.     "A highland area with hiking courses located along the Bantan Renraku Road in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. The highland was used as a filming location for the movie ""Norwegian Wood"" and the historical television dramas ""Taira no Kiyomori"" and ""Gunshi Kanbei."" In spring, the highland is covered in greenery and flowers come into bloom. In summer, cool, refreshing breezes blow, while in winter the landscape is covered in white, powdery snow. In particular, however, the highland is a renowned fall foliage destination, and in autumn some 90 hectares of white tasseled Japanese pampas grass growing on the highland create a stunning spectacle. Each year in March, controlled burns are conducted on the highland; in September, moon-viewing parties are held and in October a Japanese pampas grass festival is celebrated on the plateau."

    Daisen Masumizu Highlands is an upland area located in the western foothills of Mt. Daisen. During the summer and autumn months, the views from the “Expanse Lift” chairlift which ascends gently up the slope of the Masumizu Highlands are spectacular, and from the Observation Deck at the top visitors can view the Shimane Peninsula, the Yumigahama Peninsula, and the Sea of Japan. The Daisen Masumizu Highlands have been selected for inclusion in the Lovers’ Sanctuary Project list of romantic places to propose marriage.

    Selected as one of the top 100 famous mountains in Japan, Kirigamine Highlands, at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level, extends 10 kilometers east to west and 15 kilometers north to south. In early summer the azaleas and daylilies are at their best, and from summer through to autumn you’ll find fireweed and silver grass in bloom. Lots of alpine plants can be spotted in these grassy meadows and visitors can get views of Mt. Fuji and the Yatsugatake Mountains from this popular scenic spot.

    One of Japan's three best karsts alongside Akiyoshidai in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Hiraodai in Fukuoka Prefecture. It's located along the border to Kochi Prefecture nearly three kilometers from Jiyoshi Pass. As you leave the pass and reach the peak on this popular driving course your field of view suddenly widens and you'll find facilities such as a parking area and a camp ground. Alpine plants bloom across the flat plain during the summer and from spring to fall you'll see cattle grazing. The soft serve ice cream sold at ''Mezuruso'', marked by its peaked roof, has a reputation for being rich an addictive.

    A plateau situated along Prefectural Route 184 in Shirakimine-machi, Isahaya City. The plateau is famous for its flowers, and in spring some 100 thousand rapeseed plants come into bloom, while in autumn around 200 thousand colorful cosmos blossom. The adjoining Cosmos Flower Space Hall is equipped with a large astronomical telescope.

    A plateau 500 to 600 meters above sea level located in north Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture known as one of the top resort destinations in western Japan. Located in Daisen-Oki National Park, the plateau offers a superb view of the three peaks of Hiruzen. Cute Jersey cows graze on pastureland on the plateau, and visitors can watch them basking in the sun. The plateau is full of tourism destinations, including leisure facilities offering horseback riding, cycling, and barbecuing, as well as an amusement park and a hot spring bath facility.
  • Kawachi Toge Pass

    This is a gently sloping prairie over 6.4 times the size of Tokyo Dome occupying approximately 30 hectares. From the summit one has a view of the Ninety-Nine Islands, the Genkai Sea as well as Iki Island and Tsushima Island further away. In spring Hirado azaleas bloom profusely, in summer the grasses are a radiant green, and in autumn Japanese pampas grass covers the land as far as the eye can see. In the winter the fields are set ablaze to prevent serious fires and promote the cultivation of young grass, and many tourists come to see this spectacular sight.

    A highland sprawling at the foot of Mt. Mitake along the Nakasendo Highway in Kaidakogen Suekawa, Kiso Town, Kiso County. A naturally lush and beautiful area with a picturesque view of Mt. Mitake, even in summer the average temperature is around 18°C and the area is a great place to enjoy the outdoors while escaping the heat of lower lying areas. A variety of activity facilities are located in the area, including Kisouma no Sato, a horse ranch which raises native Kiso horses; museums; and local culture centers, in addition to restaurants, hot spring inns, and bed and breakfasts.
