This silkworm egg storage facility was built in 1905. Its refrigeration technology using naturally cooled air allowed the silviculture cycle, which traditionally had been annual, to be done several times a year. From 1905 until the 1930s it boasted the largest storage capacity in Japan. It still maintains its chilled environment today. A nationally designated historic site, it’s also registered as part of the “Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites” World Heritage Site.

The Aikawa district in Nakanojo Town, Agatsuma Couty was designated as Gunma Prefecture's first Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings in 2006. The area flourished with the rise of silkworm farming and many buildings of old sericulture farmers still remain including the former residence of Yumoto family, said to have sheltered Takano Choei, a prominent scholar of western studies when he was pursued by the Edo shogunate. Tours of the village led by local guides are also available (reservation required).

    Shizuoka Pref. Kamogunmatsuzakichou Matsuzaki 250-1
This is a free rest area located in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Kamo County, Matsuzaki Town. With a combined store and residence built in 1910 and two storehouses, the exterior’s splendid plaster work and Namako-kabe walls (walls covered with square tiles jointed with raised plaster) are worth seeing. It was originally a dry-goods store, but was donated to the town to revitalize the community and opened to the public after repair work was completed. Inside the area that was once the reception as well as dirt floors still remain, and nostalgic furnishings and implements can be seen. In the adjacent park is a foot bath with a roof.

    明治に建てられた呉服店の建物が無料の休憩所として解放されています。なまこ壁通りにあり、こちらの建物にもなまこ壁が残っています。横にある小さな公園には足湯もあり、散策の途中で立ち寄るのに良い施設です。

    Ishikawa Kanazawa-shi Kenrokumachi
This stone lantern serves as a symbol of the Kenrokuen, counted as one of Japan’s three most famous gardens. The two-legged lantern can be found by walking from the toll booth at the Katsurazaka gate on the Hyakumangoku-dori Streetside straight towards Kasumigaike Pond. 2. 67 meters tall, the lantern is a modified version of a “yukimidoro” three-legged lantern used to light up the surface of a pond, and only one of its legs stands in the pond’s waters. It is said that its name is derived from its appearance from behind, which resembles the bridge of a Japanese koto zither; although spelled with different characters, “kotoji” is the term for a koto bridge. The view in the fall encompassing the lantern, the Nijibashi Bridge spanning the Kyokusui meandering stream connecting to the pond, and the autumn foliage makes for a spectacular commemorative photo. Depending on your timing, you may encounter a line of photographers waiting to take just such a picture.

This important historical and cultural building left from the height of the Edo period is about a 25-minute drive from Nimi Interchange off the Chugoku Expressway. In the Edo period, the Nishie house fell under direct control of the government and became an official location for the local government representative. The structure retains its condition from the Meiji period. Nagasaki Pref. Nagasakishi Matsuyamamachi In Peace Park
"This bronze statue is about three minutes on foot from the Matsuyama-machi Streetcar Peace Park Stop, in the Prayer Zone of Nagasaki Peace Park at the north of Nagasaki Station. The statue was created by Seibo Kitamura, a sculptor from Nagasaki Prefecture. It was erected in 1955, ten years after an atomic bomb was dropped on the city. The statue has a variety of symbolism: the right hand refers to the threat of nuclear weapons, the left hand symbolizes peace, and the closed eyes encourage the visitor to ""pray for the repose of the atomic bomb victims."" Every August 9, Peace Memorial Ceremony is held in the square in front of the statue. "
