This is a spot that is famous for serving as a location for the filming of the 1954movie Twenty-Four Eyes. Ever since it was built in 1902 it was used as the Noma Elementary School Tanoura Branch for approximately 70 years. The classrooms remain as they were at the time with desks, an organ and creations by schoolchildren left behind, and there is no end to the visits by fans of the film and original novel.

A 10 minute walks from Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line. Together with the Icicles of Misotsuchi and the Onouchi Hyakkei Icicles, the Icicles of Ashigakubo are considered one of the three most spectacular icicle formations in Chichibuji area. Locals create the icicles by splashing water from a stream onto the side of a mountain, creating a giant, 30 meter tall icicle formation that makes for a stunning sight. Originally around 80 meters wide, today the icicle formation reaches up to 200 meters in width; this magical scene can also be viewed from the windows of passing trains. When in-season, the icicles are lit up with colorful lights from Friday to Sunday as well as on holidays. Handmade amazake sweet sake and black tea, a local specialty, are provided for free (excluding during illumination times).

    Tokyo Ota-ku Yaguchi 1-21-23
A Shinto shrine located near Musashi-Nitta Station beyond a residential area. The shrine is dedicated to the samurai Nitta Yoshioki, second son of Nitta clan head Nitta Yoshisada. The shrine is believed to have been built to console the spirt of Yoshioki, who died a terrible death, and later came to be dedicated to him as the shrine's god. Because of this history, the shrine also has a large collection of arms and crafts which once belonged to the Nitta clan. Nitta Shrine is also known as the origin of the hamaya, a now-common arrow-shaped talisman for warding away evil-in the Edo period, Japanese physician Hiraga Gennai came up with the idea for the hamaya after seeing an arrow being sold at a teahouse in front of the shrine which was claimed to be Yoshioki's.

A plaza with bronze statues of the white herons at the center of the legend behind the establishment of the Wakura Onsen hot spring district; a fountain in the plaza is supplied with water directly from a source spring. The fountain can be used to make “hot spring eggs,” custard-like soft boiled eggs; just put a basket of raw eggs in the fountain and 12-15 minutes later you can enjoy delicious hot spring eggs. The water comes direct from the spring and is extremely hot, so take care not to burn yourself while you have fun.
