Ozeki & Co., Ltd. is a long-established (founded in 1891) manufacturer of paper lanterns, with its head office in Oguma District, Gifu City. Paper lantern manufacturing is one of Gifu City’s traditional crafts; besides supplying Bon-chochin lanterns to department stores etc. throughout Japan, Ozeki & Co., Ltd. also exports “AKARI” designer lighting brand products (which were developed in collaboration with the U.S. born sculptor Isamu Noguchi) to Europe and North America. AKARI products have won international acclaim for their superior artistic qualities. In addition, Ozeki & Co., Ltd. produce innovative products that break with convention, such as paper lanterns made from traditional Japanese “Washi” paper, and “Letter Lanterns” that can be folded up and sent in the form of a letter, etc.

Popular with international tourists, they also make great souvenirs for people living outside Japan. The shop also sells renowned select handmade accessories and tenugui dyed in patterns sold only at this specific shop.
