The owner particularly recommends the Kukizen Omakase Nigiri chef's choice nigiri sushi course. The chef will prepare tasty sushi gems using select seafood and other ingredients stocked that day; it's so tasty, just this course alone will satisfy you. The restaurant also stocks an original refined sake bearing its name as well as an abundant selection of local Otaru alcoholic beverages.

Love the omakase set we ordered for dinner! Excellent oyster appetizer, cod sperm, kegashi crab, uni pudding, grilled cod, and 2 plates of sushi with various seasonal seafood! They were all aged...

    Kyoto Kyoutoshi Higashiyama-ku Gionmachikitagawa 292-1
A venerable sushi restaurant located in front of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto City’s Higashiyama Ward founded in the late Meiji period. Specializing in Kyoto sushi, a unique variety of sushi which evolved in an area far from the sea, the restaurant’s saba mackerel sushi, made with cub mackerel from Tsushima Bay, is particularly famous. The thick, fatty meat of the shimesaba vinegar soused mackerel goes perfectly with the sumeshi vinegared rice. Other excellent choices include the makizushi rolled sushi, inarizushi fried tofu sushi, and hamonoko young pike conger narezushi fermented sushi. Diners even travel from overseas to enjoy a meal at this popular establishment.

Seating at Awomb, a sushi restaurant located in Kyoto's Shimogyo Ward, is by reservation only. This restaurant is noted for its typical Kyoto atmosphere and the painstaking care it takes with fresh fish. Sitting in a remodeled traditional machiya townhouse building, customers can enjoy a so-called Koromo meal, a selection of seasonal local vegetables, seafood, and fruit for making do-it-yourself sushi. This is a favorite spot for both local residents and tourists.

Not a big fan of sushi - even in Japan but this was great fun and delicious and I don’t think too expensive. Was relatively easy to book online ahead of out trip. Really glad we did.

This sushi shop located approximately seven minutes on foot from Izu-Inatori Station is a famous shop that has been serving up kinmedai (red bream) nigiri sushi for over 30 years. Starting with the local Inatori kinmedai which is said to be particularly high quality even among Izu kinmedai, they also source wild local fish such as buri (yellowtail), hirame (flounder) and madai (another type of red sea bream) from a fishmarket that is within close walking distance. When the surface of the kinmedai is quickly seared, it takes on an exquisite taste that allows one to experience both the sweetness of the fat and the umami flavor. Enjoying sushi as a set with arajiru (fishhead soup made with kinmedai) is also popular.
