Originally providing gifts for geisha to give to favored customers, this popular shop has gained a reputation through word-of-mouth and from celebrities specially ordering its products. Using a variety of ingredients, including dainagon adzuki beans, red kidney beans, chickpeas, pinto beans, and white and black soybeans, the shop creates moist, delicately sweet ama-natto made without preservatives or colorings. The shop’s ama-natto is popular with tourists as a reasonably-priced Kanazawa souvenir. The rear of the shop is used as a takeout café in the summer (opens irregularly) where customers can enjoy shaved ice topped with specially prepared mamemitsu beans in sweet syrup.

Funanatto, the company's flagship product, is sold in boat-shaped containers made from pine and hinoki cypress wood shaved as thin as paper. Made with ultra-small soybeans grown locally in Ibaraki's Okukuji region, Funanatto has a rich, deep flavor. In addition to standard Funanatto, the shop also sells Funanatto with glutinous wheat, Funanatto with barley, Kurobune natto made with small black soybeans, and Wappanatto made with ultra large soybeans and Kinzanji miso.

    It’s a specialty “tamago-yaki” (type of Japanese omelet) shop at Tsukiji market which was founded in the late Taisho period. It is also famous as the family home of the director, Terry Ito. Only fresh eggs are used which are delivered directly from contracted farms who are particular about the health of their laying hens. A secret dashi (Japanese soup stock made from fish and kelp) is added and the skillful workers complete the fluffy juicy tamago-yaki. The refinely flavored atsuyaki-tamago (Japanese style sweet omelet) and the ebi-tamago (literally shrimp egg) are recommended as souvenirs of Tsukiji. Near the head office at the second store, it is possible to eat freshly made piping hot atsuyaki-tamago. Business hours vary from morning until around 14:00, depending on the day of the week.

There's also Shu-chan's Marugoto Cafe which offers light meals such as curry and hot sandwiches as well as fresh 100% fruit juice and smoothies and soft serve ice cream. You can also eat food you've bought from the shop in the cafe. A popular menu item is the Melon Mountain which uses an entire half of a melon.

    A venerable Kyoto pickles shop founded in 1832 located in the Sendo-cho neighborhood close to Kawaramachi Station. The shop creates Kyoto pickles which draw out the maximum flavor the ingredients involved using several varieties of carefully selected kombu kelp and adjusting the number of days of pickling and salt used in line with each ingredient’s inherent characteristics and the outside temperature and humidity. In addition to standards like Shiba-zuke (pickled eggplant and cucumber), the shop also sells limited time items made with seasonal ingredients.

    The wooded estate of Goichi Wine was opened in Kikyogahara, 700 meters above sea level in 1911. The winery focuses mainly on producing merlot and chardonnay wines. Wine production is becoming increasingly popular not only in Japan but throughout the world too. Goichi Wine produces a botrytized chardonnay, quite uncommon in the world, made with the noble rot fungus naturally generated. Visitors to the winery are also welcome to wonder around the seven hectare vineyard. There is a shop at the winery so you can sample and buy some of their fine wines.

    This well established cake shop in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture was founded in 1948. The shop makes and sells a variety of products such as confectionery and Japanese style roll cakes associated with the city of Shimoda which was the first Japanese port to open up to the outside world. Their most well known product is the Harris Milk Anpan because it is said that Townsend Harris, the first American Consul to serve in Japan, drank his favorite milk for the first time in Japan here in Shimoda. The soft and moist anpan bread roll filled with plenty of homemade strained bean paste and soft butter is popular as a souvenir.

    A 150-year old soy sauce manufacturer located on the southeastern part of Shodoshima Island—an area known for soy sauce production. Adding a compressor in 1949, it switched from making mash to soy sauce. They focus on the barrel-distilling Shodoshima Island is known for, using only cedar barrels. “Tsuru-sho” is a mellow, full soy sauce made with deep re-distilling methods, and “kiku-sho” uses Tanba kurozu beans with their softly-aromatic sweetness and richness. Also, you can see the moromi plant for free, and enjoy soy sauces at the open cafe inside.
