Legend has it that the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune met his wife, Shizuka Gozen, here as well. • Ueno Farm
    Leisure / Hobbies
    Hokkaido Asahikawashi Nagayamachou 16-186
Ueno Farm was originally an ordinary rice farm. Starting in 1989, when a change in the law made it possible for farmers to sell their rice directly to consumers, Ueno Farm experienced a steady increase in the number of people visiting the farm, and the owner decided that it would be a good idea to plant flowers so that visitors could enjoy strolling round the farm; as a result, Ueno Farm became a place where people can admire different seasonal flowers at different times of year. Today, besides walking round the Farm’s gardens, visitors can also purchase herbs and seedlings grown on the Farm using seeds imported from Europe, and enjoy light meals and desserts made using locally-grown ingredients. The weekend farmers’ market, when neighboring farmers come to sell their vegetables at Ueno Farm, is also a popular event.
